How to set the base before bold makeup

Creating a flawless base before applying bold makeup is essential for achieving a polished and long-lasting look. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Cleanse and Exfoliate:
    • Start with a clean face. Use a gentle cleanser suitable for your skin type.
    • Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth canvas. Do this 2-3 times a week, not daily.
  2. Moisturize:
    • Apply a moisturizer to hydrate your skin. Choose one that suits your skin type (oily, dry, combination).
    • For oily skin, opt for an oil-free, lightweight moisturizer. For dry skin, a richer formula will work better.
  3. Prime:
    • Use a primer to create a smooth base and help your makeup last longer. Silicone-based primers are great for filling in pores and fine lines, while hydrating primers are perfect for dry skin.
    • Apply the primer evenly across your face, focusing on areas where makeup tends to wear off quickly, such as the T-zone.
  4. Foundation:
    • Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone and type. Liquid foundations offer buildable coverage, while powder foundations are good for oily skin.
    • Apply foundation with a brush, sponge, or your fingers, blending well into your skin. Start from the center of your face and blend outward.
  5. Conceal:
    • Use a concealer to cover any blemishes, dark circles, or imperfections. Choose a shade that matches your foundation for blemishes and a slightly lighter shade for under-eye circles.
    • Blend the concealer with a brush or sponge, ensuring there are no harsh lines.
  6. Set with Powder:
    • Set your foundation and concealer with a translucent setting powder to prevent creasing and shine.
    • Use a fluffy brush to apply powder, focusing on areas that tend to get oily, like the T-zone.
  7. Contour and Highlight:
    • Add dimension to your face with contouring and highlighting. Use a matte contour powder or cream to define your cheekbones, jawline, and forehead.
    • Apply a highlighter to the high points of your face, such as the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and the cupid’s bow.
  8. Blush:
    • Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks to add a healthy glow. Choose a shade that complements your skin tone and blend it well.
  9. Set with Setting Spray:
    • Finish with a setting spray to lock in your makeup and keep it in place all day.

By following these steps, you’ll create a smooth, flawless base that enhances the bold makeup you apply next.
